Eddie Walker, this is your life...
Nov. 25th, 2003 08:16 amA few months ago while I was buying guitar lesson books I ran across a Ben Folds Five piano book that included a CD. I picked it up because I've wanted one for years, even though I don't have a piano anymore. Even though I've been thumbing through the book and even playing a few bars on the guitar since I bought it, I hadn't actually listened to the CD until Saturday. Basically it's some guy playing the music in the book at tempo and then again slowly so that you can hear everything that's going on. The frustrating thing is there's no song in it that's played all the way through. You get one verse and the bridge, that's it. However, if you have a piano, you can play the entire song by putting those things together in the right order. The songs are actually much simpler than I thought they would be. Still, Ben Folds is a far better piano player than I'll ever be. Since I'm so lame, I've been listening to the CD in my car and using it sort of like karaoke. It's kind of fun, but I think I'm ready to pop one of my SR-71 discs back in the player.
