After the success of Chicago and with the release of the movie version of The Phantom of the Opera, movie producers are buying up the rights to musicals like mad. Such musicals include Sweeney Todd, Rent, The Producers, and, most surprisingly, Hairspray. I find Hairspray surprising because the movie that the musical is based on isn't very old. Do we really need a movie remake of a broadway remake of a movie?
