I heard the news of Elisabeth Sladen's passing late last night. As a general rule, I don't get worked up over the death of a person I don't know, but I wanted to take a moment and remember the work she did that I enjoyed so much, so I watched "School Reunion" last night.
One of the things that makes me uncomfortable about this episode is Rose's immediate, intense jealousy. On the other hand, Sarah Jane had the same, albeit more sophisticated, reaction. But I think that their initial reactions to each other made their reconciliation sweeter and funnier.
There were also some poignant lines in this episode.
Goodbye, Liz.

SARAH JANE: The Universe has to move forward. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Whether it's a world or a relationship. Everything has its time and everything ends.
Goodbye, Liz.

Date: 2011-04-20 09:04 pm (UTC)I'm only familiar with her work in New Who and the first season of SJA. I haven't seen the other series yet.
One of the things I like about her character is how she's able to move on after the Doctor. It had to be very difficult and what a courageous thing to give it up to live out your very own adventure on Earth. One of the things I liked so much about SJA is the very idea of "adventure is all around you." You don't have to wait around for someone special to pick you up and show it to you. You just need to look around. You can *be* that special someone.
