Day 29 - Favorite Music/Song
I've been looking forward to posting this since I started this meme because I love this song so much. It's not just one of my favorite Doctor Who songs. It's actually one of my all-time favorite songs. I frequently listen to it in my car. It's beautiful and evocative. You can almost picture silver-leaved trees and deep red grass.
I love the thrumming drumbeat through the song. It's reminiscent of a heartbeat and gives the song a feeling of life.
It has this sort of melancholic feel to it which morphs into a triumphant sound before dropping back into something a little more sober. And, finally, reprising the bit from the beginning, it ends on an exciting, scary sort of sound which recalls the dangers the Doctor faces constantly.
In the series, this song is used when the Doctor describes Gallifrey to Martha. It also plays when Professor Yana is on-screen, hinting at what's to come.
seduff created this video using "This is Gallifrey," and it is one of my favorites. However, she skips the first part of the song, so I've posted another video below which has the whole song without dialogue overtop.

Date: 2011-11-10 04:17 pm (UTC)Dominic just turned six. He sang it in his preschool talent show. Here's a sad story: I didn't know about the talent show. They held it during the day and I was at work. I'm told he stood in front of everyone, sang "Doomsday," then broke down in tears at the end of the song because everyone else had a parent there and he didn't. It's all just so tragic, yet hilarious because it's "Doomsday" of all things.
Oh, here's the entry I wrote about it: *sads*
Tell your son to keep singing! He could be a countertenor!

My dad was a low baritone, but he had a pretty good light falsetto, so there is some hope! (I'm a singer myself)

Date: 2011-11-10 04:28 pm (UTC)I put on some pretty magnificent concerts in my car, but I don't think I could consider myself a singer anymore. I haven't sung for a crowd in *years*.

Date: 2011-11-10 04:54 pm (UTC)Every so often I have to sing "Types of Wood" (http://fannishliss.livejournal.com/101302.html) at the farmer's market to stay real.
