General update of updatiness
Jan. 28th, 2011 10:22 amI can see from the nifty calendar in the upper-right corner of my journal that I am not updating near as often as I usually do. This is because I am very, very busy with school. I nearly said, "school is kicking my ass," but the truth is, it's not. I'm actually enjoying school immensely this semester. But I'm very busy with it. I am slowly, meticulously, and methodically kicking its ass.
My writing class is actually more of an argument class. Which I like. We're given contentious topics and asked to discuss it with our classmates. Of course, I talk so much that my teacher has actually stopped calling on me. I can't help it. I have Opinions. Clearly, forming an argument is something I'm not shy about doing, so I'm willing to concede the floor to classmates less adept at this.
Irish history is also good. I like my professor very much, but she seems to be a little flustered pretty much all the time. I've talked to her outside the classroom setting a couple of times and she is just delightful. I think she may have anxiety about being the center of attention. She is also the type to think about what she says before she says it. Unfortunately, she fills in those spaces with "Um..." which makes her sound like she isn't quite sure what she's talking about.
And two last stupid little things that I'm excited about: I bought an electric kettle last weekend and I'm not sure why I didn't buy one years ago. That thing boils water so dang fast... I'm finally properly hydrated for the first time in years.
I also replaced my Pessimist's Mug. I bought this mug from Harney & Sons:

I thought it looked kind of ridiculous at first, but it cools the tea down more quickly than a standard mug so I can then drink it faster and then drink more (see hydration note above). Also, it feels really, really nice to hold and the curve of the lip is nice against my mouth.

It's a CLASSIC late, ok? :)
Date: 2011-01-31 04:13 pm (UTC)It's great to hear that you're enjoying school so much and, really, don't worry about the updating. It's always nice to hear what you've been up to (although I might be late in saying such things), but school and family is what comes first and, from what you've been posting, life has been busy for you. No worries, at least on my end.
Your writing class sounds interesting and I've said before that I love Irish History, right? Where are you at now? What sort of source/reading materials are you using? I'm so excited for you!
Also envious of those tea cups (and a pessimist's mug?!). I only have hug mugs to drink my tea in (even if it does have a Native American warrior symbol on it) and those cups do look tempting. How proper! :)

Date: 2011-01-31 04:44 pm (UTC)Right now we're at the twelfth century Anglo-Norman conquest.
Here's my textbook: Ireland: A History by Thomas Bartlett
And supplementary reading material: The History and Topography of Ireland by Gerald of Wales
We've also got some articles from The Corpus of Electric Texts and some from JSTOR.
The teacup is awesome. Highly recommended. I kind of miss my Pessimist's Mug. I broke it during my no-good, very bad morning back in December. But this is a good replacement. They're surprisingly stable for having such a strange little base.
