Day 21 - Favorite ship

The Doctor and Rose

I apologize if I sound like a broken record. It's just... The Doctor and Rose... I love them! I love Rose with the ninth Doctor. I love Rose with the tenth Doctor. I'd probably love Rose with the first Doctor. There's just something about those two characters that just seems right to me. They couldn't possibly be more different and I'm not just talking species-wise. He is an outcast from an alien culture that is advanced, refined, and arrogant. She's a drop-out from the projects of London, well-loved and popular. Despite, or possibly because of, their differences they complement each other beautifully.

There was a long-standing taboo on this show against the Doctor having romantic involvement with his companions. I loved the jokes about the Doctor and Rose being lovers and how they always vehemently denied that they were involved. I think that this worked so well because they don't resolve that sexual tension until the very last moment (see yesterday's entry). By that time Billie Piper had left the show, so there was never that dating period that gets old so quickly on tv shows. Their relationship always stayed very sweet.

Unfortunately, this makes me hate River Song. And that's a shame, because she really is a fun character (she says, grudgingly).
