Feb. 22nd, 2012 10:32 amI've been updating so infrequently lately that it feels like I've just been posting lists of random things that happened. This entry is no different.
I had my French interview last night. I was better prepared for this one than I was for any of my entretiens last semester, but I still feel like I bombed it. My prof this semester is more demanding than last year's prof. I prepared responses to all of the questions, but she asked questions about each one and I had a difficult time understanding her questions and forming my answers on the fly. She asked me if I had studied French before because my accent is very good. So, I may not have said anything that made sense, but I said it well.
My American Politics class isn't my least-favorite class ever, but it is by far the most boring. It's not as painful as my Modeling Algebra class (the teacher isn't looking to date her students, so that's a plus). I nearly nodded off during the lecture on the American bureaucracy. Ugh... my eyelids are getting heavy just typing this.
Justin and I took Dominic to the brand-spankin' new Cleveland Aquarium this weekend. I bought an annual pass and I think we'll get a lot of use out of. Dominic already wants to go back.
Someone gave me a two month paid LJ extension. I can't tell if it was a gift or if it was something LJ is giving everyone. In any case, thank you very much!
We're holding the annual chili cook-off at my company today and as the official heat ranker, I've been eating chili all morning. This makes my stomach unhappy. I can't do that kind of heavy food first thing in the morning.
I watched the Christmas episode of Downton Abbey on Sunday and while I found it predictable, I also found it awesome. Now I have a Downton Abbey-shaped hole in me that I need to fill with something else. I started watching Sense & Sensibility because my DVR picked it up on Masterpiece Classic (which I record to get Downton Abbey). It's not quite as good as Downton Abbey, but I'm enjoying it.
Community is coming back on March 15!
I'm thinking it might be time to plan another Doctor Who IRC rewatch. Is anyone interested?

Date: 2012-02-24 04:44 am (UTC)-I think 90% of succeeding in language is having the right accent, so good on you! (I say this as a semi-native speaker of another language)
Oooh, was the aquarium really awesome? I don't remember there being any aquarium at all back when I lived near there. (Do you ever go to the West Side Market? That was probably one of my favorite places in Cleveland)

Date: 2012-02-24 12:24 pm (UTC)I really loved the aquarium. It's brand new and located in the Flats in the same building as Nautica. It's fairly small and features a lot of native fish, but I thought it was really interesting and the shark tank was amazing (though it is so new the water hasn't quite settled so it's very murky right now). Unfortunately, my fellow North-eastern Ohio residents don't seem to like it much. The reviews haven't been good. I think maybe they were expecting a huge, state-of-the-art facility and this aquarium is just not. But it's nice and reasonably priced and Dominic and I both love it.
I need to get to the West Side Market. I've never been. I hear it's right up my ally, but to be honest, I have no idea where it is. I mean, other than Cleveland's West Side. I've got a friend who loves it and I may be able to finagle her into going with me.

Yay native fish! I'm sad the reviews haven't been so good. I just read an article and it sounds pretty neat- especially about the building it is housed in.
but to be honest, I have no idea where it is.
Totally grab a friend! I used to drive out from Lorain county with a group of friends and I remember it was pretty easy to find- the building it's in is pretty distinctive. They've got a huge selection of all kinds of produce, which was the main draw for me, but the indoors section had cheeses, all kinds of meat, fresh bread, olives, fresh pasta, pastries... Very cool if you, like me, were living in a small town. Some of the vendors even started recognizing me after a while. :)
