I Love You Day

Dominic declared Sunday "I Love You Day." I'm pretty sure he was just fishing for a new video game, but it was still pretty sweet. He told me, "I Love You Day is a day where you do something nice for someone else. Like make them a pretty picture or buy them a video game. I'm going to make you a heart!"
In the spirit of "do something nice for someone else" I made Dominic his very own playlist on my iPod and downloaded a new song for him. It was "Round and Round" by Selena Gomez. I don't care for it, but Dominic is a big fan.
When I showed it to him I asked him what he made me. He looked pretty sheepish and finally said, "I'll make it when we get home."
We went to the store to pick up some sunblock and he found a penny near the cash registers. He carried it around with him for 45 minutes, then out of nowhere, he handed it to me and said, "This is your present for I Love You Day! Yeah, I knew I was going to find money at the store. I was planning it all along!"
I thanked him for his thoughtful gift and complimented him on the amount of planning involved in the present. Heh.
Yesterday, Dominic got his kindergarten immunizations. His sitter and the other kids had him all worked up about it a couple of weeks ago (seriously? Who goes out of their way to tell a kid that shots hurt???) so I told him that he could have a scoop of ice cream for every shot after two. He was so excited about the ice cream that he begged for the shots. Throughout the examination, he kept asking for them. When the nurses finally came in, he wasn't the least bit scared and laid perfectly still while they prepped him. They asked me to hold his arms, so I hugged him and looked him straight in the eyes, blocking his view of them. I asked him if he was scared and he said, "No." Then they stuck him and everything changed. He was confused at first, then shocked, then outraged. But he didn't cry. He just kept saying, "That's starting to hurt! That hurts! THAT HURTS!!" It was over within seconds. Four shots. Two in each leg. Dominic is pretty adamant that he never wants another shot ever again.
We took him to a Thai restaurant for dumplings, then to Baskin Robbins for ice cream. Afterwards, we went to the video game store and tried to buy him a game, but the one we wanted to get him wasn't out yet, so we bought him his very own red PS3 controller so he could play Worms with Justin.
He handled everything really well and I'm so proud of him. He says his legs are a little sore today. I can't quite believe him because, in order to prove his legs are sore, he squatted down and waddled everywhere.
I was up far too late last night playing FFXI. I finally gathered my courage and put up my party flag for an Abyssea party. I got an invite less than a minute later. Justin walked me to the party area and showed me what I needed to do. I have never seen anything like an Abyssea party. Eighteen players working together to destroy mobs as quickly as possible. Constant runs back to an NPC for experience pages. A "key master" running around opening treasure chests containing items, experience points, and cruor (Abyssea money).
Just for comparison sake, understand that it took me weeks to solo from level 1 to level 15. It took me years to get from 15 - 62 (I took long breaks, but even if I hadn't, it would have taken me ages to level this far). It took me weeks to get from 62 -73.
It took me four hours to get from 73 - 80 in that Abyssea party. People on my linkshell were watching my progress remotely as entertainment because it was so fast. It was *amazing*.
If I can get into a similar party this weekend, I could hit my level cap in one day. I know SE is planning to raise the cap to 95 in August, and eventually to 99. I hope to be ready!

Date: 2011-06-08 01:47 pm (UTC)Dominic and I were once in Target and he melted down about something and I ended up doubled over, crying I was laughing so hard. All the while Dominic's screaming, "IT'S NOT FUNNY!"
An old man tapped me on the shoulder and said, "At least you've just got the one." I've never figured out if that was support or ridicule. Doesn't matter. I've found that my reaction to his tantrums has decreased the likelihood of a tantrum. He never has them in public anymore and rarely has them at home. He knows they won't net him what he wants and he'll just be laughed at, so he handles his frustration in other, usually more productive, ways.
The point of that story is this: When his face went through those transformations, I felt sick to my stomach. And still chuckled.

I worked for 6 months in a children's hospital and I found that when it comes to needles if the parent is scared/nervous the child will pick up on that and be scared themselves.

Date: 2011-06-08 01:40 pm (UTC)This morning, I told him I was proud of him for not crying, even when it hurt. He said, "I cried a little." Awww. But now he's totally milking it. "I can't walk, my legs hurt!" as he waddles around the living room in a squat. Heheh.
