I just discovered my DVR failed to record Doctor Who last night. I'll have to wait another week to watch "The Almost People." I tried to avoid spoilers, but still stumbled across some pretty massive ones. I'm not sure how I feel about what the poster revealed, which I suppose is good, because I'd like to judge it for myself when I finally get to see it.

If not, you don't know those yet? Heh.

Date: 2011-06-06 01:26 am (UTC)I actually really like Eleven. Especially when he's excited, happy, or being goofy and Matt Smith really pulled off sadness with aplomb in "The Doctor's Wife." But, like you, I'm not as interested in Eleven as I am in Nine and Ten. I'm more of a Nine girl, myself, but Ten was just a joy to watch, even when his material wasn't great.
Seasons five and six lack something and it's been nagging at me for ages what it is. I think I discovered it. They lack a character I can relate to. Rory is as close as the writers have come to a character who behaves in a way that makes sense to me, and sometimes I question even his motives.
I don't think seasons five and six are bad. Doctor Who is still better than most of what's currently airing, but I don't love these later seasons as much as I loved the first four.

I think a choice was made to purposely not costume MS that way. Although, I think when they let him "be the Doctor" he can be very charismatic. Until recently, I don't think they gave him many opportunties to really dig into the role and show the audience what he can do.
I 100% agree with you Doctor who, no matter the Doctor, is usually better than most science fiction on television, especially US scifi type shows. Of course, I fell in love with DW as a child so I might be a tad prejudiced. I loved Four and Romana - I was seriuosly heart broken when Four regenerated into Five.

Annisag, god I hope it wasn't me who you read the spoilers through. I was hoping that I sent out enough warnings!!!! But now I have the guilts!

Date: 2011-06-06 11:18 am (UTC)Nope! Without exception, everyone on my friends page posted adequate warnings ahead of any discussion about the episodes. I actually stumbled across the spoilers in a community where I didn't expect to be spoiled. The poster did put a warning, but it was midsentence and followed by the spoiler in bold type. My eyes jumped straight to the spoiler.
Also, BBCAmerica posted a quiz this morning on Facebook about which returning character in the latest episode (man, I hope it wasn't the finale they were talking about, because that hasn't even aired yet) we liked the best, so now I'm even more in the know.
