30 Days of Nu-Who: Day 10
Mar. 18th, 2011 10:33 amDay 10 - Favorite Scene/Moment
You know what my absolute favorite part is? It’s that part at the end of “Midnight” when Donna copies the Doctor’s “Molto bene,” and he looks horrified and tells her not to do that (I even included a picture in my post about that episode). I kind of want to go into why I like it so much, but I keep talking about “Midnight” and I’m really trying to stop.
Instead, let’s talk about other fabulous parts that I just adore.
There’s this scene in “Rose,” that is the reason I kept watching Doctor Who when I first stumbled across it one evening back in 2006.
I love it because he’s so intense and finishes off with “Now forget me,” ensuring that there is no possible way she ever will.
There’s also this part in “Blink,” in which Sally Sparrow has a conversation with a recording of the Doctor that was filmed 40 years earlier.
I’m a fan of timey-wimey. Or, I am when I can comprehend it.
I also like a good hero shot:
Edit:
I am unhappy with how I ended this, so I'm adding on.
The thing is, there are so many great scenes and moments in this show that it's nearly impossible to choose just one.
I think what makes the end of "Midnight" stand out so much to me is that it's the culmination of a running gag that gets twisted into something horrifying. Both Rose and Martha attempted to mimic speech patterns and they were each told the exact same thing, "No. Don't do that." And it was funny! Poor Donna's timing is just so bad when she tries to copy the Doctor's speech patterns that when she gets the same "don't" it's not funny at all. Each time the gag comes out, you can see why the Doctor is telling them not to do it. When Rose and Martha try to copy accents and speech patterns, they sound ridiculous. When Donna does it, she is inadvertently replaying a terrifying experience. I love the changeup. It was unexpected and chilling.
Apparently I just really needed to talk about "Midnight" some more, because now I feel much better about this entry.

Date: 2011-03-18 04:18 pm (UTC)The second and third are probably my favorite (and not because of my Nine issues, I like Nine in "Rose" as a matter of fact, and agree with your ideas on it), mostly because of the timey wimey awesome in the former (and it was rather funny if you think of the tape alone) and the third has the most epic speech in Ten's history (imho).
...And don't you mean god hero shot for the last one? Just so epic I can't even deal. I played it and was mouthing the words to myself. Love it.

Have you seen this?
[Edit: sonofagun... why can't we embed a Youtube video in comments??? Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4deW5Okmr4

"And don't you mean god hero shot..."
Well, you know the Doctor always says he'd make a very bad god. It is truly epic, though. :)

Date: 2011-03-18 05:58 pm (UTC)VotD isn't bad, really, it just requires a bit more background knowledge to appreciate it (as Ten comes across as rather callous. Not that I blame him). And I wish I had been more involved in
"Well, you know the Doctor always says he'd make a very bad god."
He might say that but, truly, I think by the end of Series 4/The Specials (perhaps even Series 3 with his coming back from the brink of death scene) he's gotten to be at a very fine line. At least demi-god status I'd argue. Of course, I'm such a huge fan of WoM and his total freak out/power-hungry actions that I'm of the opinion that, somewhere before that, he became his own god. I never said he'd be a good one, just a god by himself.
ETA: Oh yes, completely epic. It's one of my favorites quotes of the whole series. So the Doctor (in any form).

Date: 2011-03-18 09:58 pm (UTC)I also seem to be one of those rare VotD fans. I don't care that it's cheesy - it hangs together brilliantly and it has David Tennant running around in a tuxedo for an hour. What more oould any girl have wanted for Christmas?!
