Just a note. The guy who bought my car was kind of a jerk. He was irritated that I wouldn't have the title notarized before he gave me the name and address of the person the title would be transferred to. Luckily, the notary was on my side (it clearly said that all of the blanks were to be filled out before notarizing). My address was on it, why was he trying to hide his own? Then he asked if he could keep my plates for a week and I'm like, "Dude, I don't know you."* Then I made him sign a bill of sale (which all the websites say you should do) which releases me from all liability the moment I hand him the keys. He did all that and paid me the remaining funds. Then just before he walked out the door forever he said, "I sometimes buy cars...this one's for my daughter-in-law... so I've done this a few times and I have to say... you're really going overboard." So, no helpful hints. No, "Nice doing business with you." Just a quick "silly little girl" and out the door.

I smile and replied, "Yep, I tend to do that. Look up 'Overboard' in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of me. Nice doing business with you." And he went away forever. Good riddance.

I was sad when he drove my car away, though.

* What I actually said was, "I can't let you keep the plates, but I would be happy to drive the car to your house and take the plates with me when I leave or you could bring the plates off another car."

Sounds like a jerk. At least your beloved car is going to be driven by his DIL instead of him, otherwise that would bug me.
Doesn't sound like you did anything overboard to me. Since when is following the law and protecting yourself a bad thing?

Seriously. If he had told me the car was for himself I probably wouldn't have sold it to him. I know it's not sentient, but I love it and I don't want him to have it.

Good job. Methinks he was a little flustered that the first person he'd worked with who was dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's was a little blonde girl. Funny how what looks like "assertive and a shrewd bargainer" in a man looks like "nervous and trying too hard" in a woman to some people.

He obviously needs to watch more Buffy. That's it. ;)

He struck me as the kind of guy who needed to think he got a bargain. I priced the car fairly and even had documentation to back up my pricing. So he offered me $100 less than my asking price (to fix the brakes, which were fine and I told him so and added that the vibration he was feeling would go away if he rotated the tires). It was such a small amount compared to the asking price that I let him think he was pulling one over on me and agreed to the lower price. But it was clear all the time that I had the upper hand. After all, I had someone coming just a few minutes after him to look at it as well. The car would have sold that day regardless of whether or not he bought it. And he knew it. I don't think he liked that I knew it too. He just had to get one cheap shot at me before he left to make him feel like the big man again.

Wow. I would have been completely annoyed by that!! (and probably told him that I wasn't interested in doing business with him)
