On the mend
Jan. 7th, 2012 07:57 pmI came down with a fairly nasty cold on Thursday. I managed to make it through work on Thursday, but Friday I was even worse so I decided to stay home. I wasn't the least bit interested in doing anything but laying on my couch, so my computer got set aside and I had a major veg-fest with my good friend Netflix.
Star Trek (2009): Back around Christmastime 2009, my coworkers and I planned to go see this together when the office closed early for the holidays. Something kept this from actually happening, though, and I just never got around to watching it. Shame on me! I loved it. Normally, I watch TV with a book, my computer, or my phone in front of me. I'm a multitasker. I started playing spider solitaire, but ended up setting it aside almost immediately. It's easily my favorite of the Star Trek movies.
Friday Night Lights: Last summer I started watching this series on a co-worker's recommendation. It's about football culture in small-town America (American football, obviously). In other words, it's not really my thing. You need to understand that so you understand what it means when I tell you I loved it enough to watch five seasons of it and be excited about every single episode. It's one of the few shows I've ever watched that has made my jaw drop and made me shout because of the things I saw. I watched seasons 1 - 4 last summer and season 5 recently became available. It was very fulfilling because it had decent conclusions for all of the characters without a sense of finality. All of the characters felt very real. I'd recommend this series even if you don't like football. There is also a book and documentary that the series was based on, but I haven't read or seen them.
I finished my my veg-session with a couple episodes of Mad Men. I've seen all the available episodes already, but I love that show. I had to turn it off when Dominic came home from his grandparents' house.
I'm starting to feel better. I'm still tired and I still occasionally cough or sneeze, but my throat is no longer on fire and my muscles are sore only from disuse instead of sickness.
