The 2016 Goodreads Reading Challenge

I set a goal to read 30 books last year. I only read 20. But I think that’s slightly misleading because in February, I started reading Labyrinth fanfic. And then I read ALL the Labyrinth fanfic. Well, that’s not entirely true. I read all the Labyrinth fanfic that was on AO3, crossed over with other universes I was already familiar with (and a few I wasn’t), and actually readable. That knocked a few out of the running. And then I also read all of the fics on any of the rec lists that come up when you search “Labyrinth fanfic recs” on Google. Taking all of that into account, I feel decent about the amount of reading I did last year.

My favorite books that I read last year were:

“A Short Stay in Hell” by Steven L. Peck

“High-Rise” by J.G. Ballard

“The Martian” by Andy Weir

For the Doctor/Rose Shippers on my F-list

If you're looking for shippy Nine/Rose novels, check out "Only Human" by Gareth Roberts. Near the climax of the story, it gets incredibly shippy. Additionally, the plot is interesting, and has some incredibly disturbing moments... which I like.

Big fan of this story, right here.

Addition to my to-do list

  • Read "The Land of Painted Caves," by Jean Auel. It looks terrible, but I've read every stinking book starting with "Clan of the Cave Bear" when I was in 8th grade and I mean to finish the series, dammit.

...shoulda stopped after "The Valley of Horses"... /grumble
