The 2016 Goodreads Reading Challenge

I set a goal to read 30 books last year. I only read 20. But I think that’s slightly misleading because in February, I started reading Labyrinth fanfic. And then I read ALL the Labyrinth fanfic. Well, that’s not entirely true. I read all the Labyrinth fanfic that was on AO3, crossed over with other universes I was already familiar with (and a few I wasn’t), and actually readable. That knocked a few out of the running. And then I also read all of the fics on any of the rec lists that come up when you search “Labyrinth fanfic recs” on Google. Taking all of that into account, I feel decent about the amount of reading I did last year.

My favorite books that I read last year were:

“A Short Stay in Hell” by Steven L. Peck

“High-Rise” by J.G. Ballard

“The Martian” by Andy Weir

I wish you could list fanfic words read without actually listing the fanfic. Just for completeness sake. I went bonkers and put down 250 books and dropped off at about 200. Note there were a number of children's books, a couple short stories and number of comic books (which are a lot shorter these days) in that total.
