Dear Cathy,

I'm always available if you need a ride to work, but I want to be asked. When you simply leave a note on my chair that says, "Pick Cathy up at Saturn" I feel taken for granted and it makes me not want to help you out. Furthermore, when I go three miles in the complete opposite direction than I normally drive to work, I would appreciate it if you would be there on time and not make me wait 15 minutes for you to show up. You were almost left behind.

After the boxes and the back problems?
They are left behind. Permanently.
No excuses.
Also, it cures much tardiness to leave on the dot exactly when you said you were leaving.

I'm very unlikely to advise you to continue to be this nice in this relationship. It only gets worse and more abusive. But you knew that--sorry for the lecture.

Time to go to work and say things like, "What note? You left a note? Interesting. Must have fallen in the trash can. You know I don't pick up anybody who leaves strange notes. Could be anybody left it. Stalkers, who knows. I don't meet people who don't talk to me."
(Might not work as well there as out here with size of population, but I make no assumptions about how odd people can be in any town.)
What possibly pressure can she bring to bear to compel you, after all?
It's your job to be *polite*?
And she's allowed to be so effing rude, because it's your role to be the nice one and we mustn't upset such roles ever?
