Apr. 29th, 2004 09:16 amI'm slightly annoyed at last night's South Park. Firstly annoyed because they lost any hint at subtlety they used to have. I continued watching hoping it would get better...and it kind of did... Then they ended the show by shrugging their shoulders and saying, "We don't know how to fix it...screw it." Justin says that they ended it that way because the way the South Park-ers were fixing the future has nothing to do with fixing the situation with illegal immigrants from Mexico. Yeah, he's probably right.
I've been noticing the social commentary in South Park has been heading the way of Rush Limbaugh. Short, easy answers that sound good but don't actually work in practice.
But then...I suppose that's why most people don't get their political opinions from South Park.
Angel was slightly disappointing as well. But maybe that's because most of this season's episodes have been exceptionally good.

Date: 2004-04-29 04:17 pm (UTC)I was also surprised at how much detail they went into with the history stuff (lost pages w/Harris, the cute pictures of everybody, Angel Moroni). One part (the hat bit) I'd even forgotten about until seeing the cartoon, then I remembered... oh yeah, we did go over that in seminary.
The only part that got on my nerves a little was their "dumb dumb dumb" song. But it was still funny. And I do laugh when they make fun of other people's belief systems, so I guess it was my turn.

I hope they get picked up by someone else, be maybe its time that she show end before they start makeing things bad like what happened with Buffy........

Date: 2004-04-29 12:38 pm (UTC)Season 4 had Something Blue, Hush, and Restless
Season 5 had The Replacement (which was on FX this morning, hooray!), Fool for Love, The Body, and The Gift.
Season 6 had Once More with Feeling, Hell's Bells, Normal Again, and that whole Willow-as-the-Big-Bad thing for the finale.
Season 7 had Conversations with Dead People (one of the scariest things I've ever seen on t.v.), Storyteller, and Chosen (which I thought was a fantastic way to end the series).
Yeah, I feel odd recapping all these episodes, but in my opinion, the story arcs in these seasons were so good! And although the individual episodes probably don't stack up to the first seasons of the show, the few gems they had elevate the whole season above the others.
I could've lived with Xander not having his eyeball poked out, though.
I loved the muppet episode. I just keep thinking of the phrase "quality edutainment" and I crack up all over again.

Date: 2004-04-29 01:39 pm (UTC)I so want an update... Maybe we can get one more out of Angel. It was nice to see Andrew in L.A. and to get an update on where everybody from Buffy was and what they were doing.

Date: 2004-04-29 01:05 pm (UTC)The last season was good, I don't disagree. And there were high points, but it was kind of almost always very good before graduation, even that depressing season where Angel was evil. But after that it wa kind of "oh, shit, we need to think of something now"....
