Sometimes Dominic says something and I just have to share it.

"Mommy, I've got this new story. It's called 'Harry Potter and the Real World.' You know what's funny about it? He can't use magic. ...and he runs out of stories."

Oh my wow. That is so cute, so very meta, and...

...so very sad.

The first fanfic I ever started was something along those lines, actually. I wrote about half a chapter...and then I reread it and realized it was an inferior version of The Matrix, or a vastly inferior version of the Buffy episode "Normal Again".

You should've heard his tone of voice. He was laughing really hard at "He can't use magic!" That ... was about 20 seconds long in which he realized magic isn't real and what that meant for the story. That last sentence was very somber.

I had this great idea for a story and while I was plotting it out, I realized it was a ripoff of "What Dreams May Come." IOW, I feel your pain. :/
