First day of gymnastics

Today was Dominic's first day of gymnastics. He wasn't very enthusiastic about going. I figured if he didn't like it that we would stop after this 5 week session and find another activity to try. He seemed pretty happy about trying guitar or piano. But it turns out he loves gymnastics.

We got there a little early and his teacher, Miss Ashley, introduced herself. She knew who he was right away because boys are rare in gymnastics and she already knows the only other boy in Dominic's class.



They started out with stretching. They gathered the kids in a circle and played games to get their muscles stretched. Then they demonstrated and taught them the names for different moves they do a lot. I can't remember any of the names. Then they put the kids through a couple of obstacle courses to practice the moves. They did some tumbling, some balance, and some jumping.



Dominic had a blast. At the end they played a song to stretch for cool down and then they all gave Miss Ashley a high five and left. The girls started hugging the teacher after their high fives. Dominic decided to one-up them and kissed Miss Ashley's hand. All the parents in unison go, "Awwww!"

So, gymnastics is a success!

Things for Dominic to work on: personal space, queuing, LISTENING. Still, he was improved in all of things by the end of the one hour lesson.

OMG, I seriously want his shirt. I love it! I say it (or something like that) to myself all the time. I know he's going to grow up much taller than me eventually but still. And isn't he just the cutest thing? Yup, close to it.

Happy to hear gymnastics was a success. I'm sure that the issue of personal space will eventually go away as he gets older. Or he may just be really expressive. Or even bold and rather calculating as he tried to, as you say, "one-up" everyone else. Tons of possibilities.

'Course, I'm no kid expert (I leave that to my housemate). I can appreciate their cuteness...at a distance. :)

I love that little outfit. The shirt actually says, "I may be small, but I'm awesome in action!" And has a dragon below. The little shorts have a matching dragon on one of the legs. It seemed appropriate for gymnastics. He's also small for his age.

I'm going with bold and calculating. :) He's a regular Eddie Haskell.

It was cracking me up to watch him. They'd all be walking in a line flapping their arms like birds and Dominic would see a shorter route to their destination and he'd take off running for it. His teacher would catch him and direct him to the back of the line and he'd go back to flapping his arms, walking behind everyone. He's learning. Slowly, but surely.
