Looking for running gear
May. 28th, 2008 08:03 amAs I walked out my front door last night to go walk/run, I noticed my MP3 player's battery was pretty low. I said to Justin, "I don't think it'll last very long and if I have no music, what's the point?" I shut the door behind me, took one step off the porch and, *bing* battery dead. I turned around and went right back inside. I just can't do it without music. I just have no motivation.
I can't actually run until I get a good jog bra. I went to Lane Bryant on Sunday and they don't carry anything like that so the sales lady told me to go to Dick's Sporting Goods. She said that's where she buys hers. I call B.S. That woman was at least 2 bra sizes bigger than me (and that's saying a lot!) and Dick's didn't carry anything anywhere near my size. As a matter of fact, they had a sign that all but said "Big Girls Don't Exercise." Ok, so that's not a quote, but the sign had a list of sizes they carry and under "running" my size said "N/A". So I came back to work, where my co-workers were all gathered around talking about where to go to lunch. A few of them knew what my errand entailed and I said to them as I walked past, "Dick's has no love for the busty ladies." Which sounded a lot dirtier than I intended. So I got online and did some research and eventually decided to order an Enell sports bra. It's ugly as sin, but looks like it'll keep me in one place. http://www.enell.com/index.html
Now all I need are good jogging pants and a top. And I'm running into the same problem as I had with the bra. Very annoying. Anyone got any tips for me? I'm a size 18, so stores like Target are right out.

I've heard mixed reviews about the Enell bra, but unfortunately can't evaluate them myself (they only go up to a DDD and I'm... somewhat larger). As a result I tend to go with the standard tank-top-cut lycra sports bra 2-4 sizes smaller than my usual shirt size. That pretty effectively stops all movement and keeps them out of my way.
When I go off-the-rack I usually buy my exercise gear at Catherine's (plain, occasionally fug, but serviceable), or Avenue (cuter, trendier, but sometimes a bit silly). Danskin also has a plus-size collection, which tends to be a bit more expensive but also of higher quality construction. I've also heard good things about Junonia.
