Conversations with a Five Year Old

Dominic and I were talking while we drove home last night. He asked if squirrels got tired. I said yes and he asked if that was why they go to sleep at night. I said yes. Then he asked why animals go to sleep at night. I said that many animals sleep at night, but many animals sleep during the day and wake up at night.

"There's a special word for animals that are awake at night."

"Owls!" he said.

While owls wasn't the word I was going for, I was still pretty impressed that he knew that. Then he asked if lions sleep during the day and I had to admit that I didn't know. I know a lot of cats are nocturnal, but I'm not sure about lions. Anyone know?
