I arrive on the Kent campus about an hour before class begins each day. I usually spend that time either reading fic on my netbook or doing homework. Today I arrived at the math building to find my teacher and a classmate parked where I usually sit. My teacher, Tom, immediately asked me what cell phone company I use, which is a complicated subject for me since I manage phones for my company. So I launch into an explanation of what I do, how many lines I have, which companies I use and why.

This conversation eventually morphs into a conversation about music. He begins talking about a friend of his who performs country and western music. He waits to hear my opinion so I just apologize and tell him that country music is one of the only genres I just can't get into. He starts to say something about "country and western music" and I jump in with a "We have both kinds!" quip. A girl behind me interrupts to school me a bit on the history of country music and the different variations thereof. I smiled (hopefully politely) and said, "I know. That's a joke from the movie 'Blues Brothers.'" She looked mildly embarrassed. I hope I didn't come off as condescending.

The music conversation continued for a while and Tom said, "I can't remember the last time I was in a music store."

"Do they still have those?" I asked.

The girls standing behind me started giggling and I realized belatedly that that was a fairly good burn.

So Tom said, "Y'know, you have a test today. I think I'm going to go get a harder one just for you."

The test wasn't bad. I didn't understand a couple of things on it (stuff from the day I missed), but I'm not worried.

Dominic is leaning on me as I'm writing this. We're watching Pokemon. There was commercial for Moon Dough on just now and Dominic said, "I wish I had that."

"I bet you do," I reply.

"Oh wait! I do have that! It's in my room!"

"I thought that was Moon Sand."

"Well, it's the same thing. That's just how you say it in Spanish."

Things I learned tonight:

1. Blues Brothers quotes are confusing to people who have never heard of The Blues Brothers.

2. It's a crying shame that some people have never heard of The Blues Brothers.

3. Spanish is confusing.
