Curtain Conundrum
Aug. 12th, 2008 09:46 amHere is a picture of our living room from our house inspection back in 2005.

Right now, my living room walls are painted a light tan. The carpet is beige with pink undertones. My couch and loveseat are deep red microfiber. My eventual goal was to have curtains that ran a medium - dark brown (think paper grocery sack brown or darker) made from silk or a fabric with a similar sheen. I'm most comfortable surrounded by warm colors like tans and browns and I love the pop of the red furniture. Silver accents from my lamps and just a touch of ice blue accents lighten it up. But I'm having issues with the curtains. Those floral valances and lace curtains are still up in the living room because I'm not sure what to replace them with. I know what color and texture I want, but I don't know what style. I'm bringing this up now because my in-laws moved to Murfreesboro, TN this weekend and I inherited a sewing machine identical to the one my mom had when I was growing up (in other words, I already know how to use it) and can now make my own curtains.
I'm asking for your advice. What sort of curtains should I make for these windows?
I want them open during the day, but I want to close them at night. I don't want sheers. The large window faces the street and I don't want people to be able to see in in the evenings. I'm not sure that I want long curtains on the short window. I haven't been able to find any drape runners (you come across freaky stuff and a lot of Twin Peaks references when you google "drape runners").
My tastes run modern. I'm thinking roman shades, but I'm undecided.
Help?
