Jun. 20th, 2005 08:24 amI have a fabulous hairdresser. I have a hairdresser that cares. And I was highly disturbed on Thursday when she said a mole on the back of my head had grown and changed colors. Still, I am lucky that she even noticed. But it was the first in a series of bad news that sent me into a complete tailspin on Friday.
I went in for my ultrasound followup on Friday morning. My GP had finally (after 3 months of waiting) sent over my chart from her office which was supposed to tell the OBs how bad my heart problems were only to find out that they had completely lied to me for over 4 years about my heart. They told me that I have some "regurgitation" in one of the chanbers of my heart so some of the blood that is pumped through gets sucked back in. It's not life threatening and is supposed to be easily controlled by limiting the intake of stimulants. What I actually have is a slow heart beat. Yep, that's it. For 4 frickin' years I've been carefully watching what I eat because of a slow heart beat. Still, in light of possible skin cancer and what came next, it's not that big a deal. The ultrasound report hadn't yet been faxed to the doctor's office (I think it has something to do with my name...the doctor thinks to him/herself, "Hmmm...with a name like Annissa, she can probably wait"). When they finally fax the damn thing over, I see the letter is written in Comic Sans font on official letterhead. Because, you know, bad news is best delivered in a font meant for lettering comic strips. Basically what it says is that there are two abnormalities, one in each ventrical of my baby's heart. These particular abnormalities are sometimes a sign of a genetic disorder, most commonly Down Syndrome. This does not mean that my baby has a genetic disorder, it just means that the chances have now doubled. Possibly higher since having it in both ventricles is unusual. We have to see a Genetic Counselor to get more information.
