I had to work on Saturday. It's annoying, but Elyse and I got a lot done. We finished cleaning out the archived files from the filing cabinets in our office. We didn't have the energy to move the 15 boxes down to the warehouse, though. So instead we went down to the warehouse and arranged ourselves some working space. That means we moved about 100 full bankers boxes containing accounting papers and utility contracts into several small islands against one wall. Then we moved the 40 boxes from last week against another wall. Then I realized we would need that wall, so we had to move it again. We took a Quiznos break before moving it the second time, though, and that greatly improved our moods. We got our letter signs up and started removing the contents of the 40 archive boxes and sorting them according to the first letter of the customer name. We worked until our feet were burning then we went home. Overtime money is delicious!

I came home to a pleasant surprise. Justin had bought an X-Box (he found a store selling the holiday bundle prematurely) and he picked up Fable for me. :D It's my first real role-playing video game (not counting Pokemon). I started playing it yesterday.

Yesterday I took Justin and Tena shoe shopping. Tena enjoyed it because she can't walk very far so she got to sit while Justin and I tried on shoes. I bought Justin a new pair of Vans. I bought myself a pair of Vans and a remarkably comfortable pair of high-heeled, pointy-toed dress boots. They're leather so I need to get some waterproofer. I intend to wear them this winter.

I've written to Congressman Sherrod Brown several times. I've always believed him to be a republican. Then I heard him on a commercial on the radio this morning explaining why he would be voting for Kerry. Just now I went to his website and I see he's a democrat. Where've I been? Oh well. I liked him when I thought he was a republican and I like him now that I know he's a democrat.

Dear GOP,

I was appalled when I saw on CNN the end of a rally in which former First Lady Barbara Bush and Congresswoman (former Secretary of State) Katherine Harris greeted voters in Florida during which time the speaker reminded everyone to "vote early and often". Firstly, it looks bad to have Congresswoman Harris be part of your rally because of her role in the 2000 election debacle. Secondly, "vote early and often" is a phrase that originated from former Chicago Mayor William Hale Thompson who was known best for corruption and manipulation of the democratic process. It would probably be in your best interest to discontinue the use of that phrase.

Then again, maybe this is all part of your plan.

Regards,
Annissa

I guess I just have a lot on my mind today. Here's something else.

I rented "Super Size Me" this weekend and watched it on Saturday night. It was an entertaining movie and I was somewhat surprised that Morgan's health went downhill as quickly as it did. However, there was one man (I'm not sure if he was a doctor) who said that the obesity problem in the united states is caused exclusively by fast food. His argument, and I'm paraphrasing here, went something like, "It's not eating at home because we've eaten at home from the beginning of time. It's not the neighborhood restaurant because we've had neighborhood restaurants for centuries*." And I thought that's where his argument broke down. I mean, I see his point, but we've only recently begun eating so many processed foods at home. And it's only been recently that we've been driving to the restuarants 3 and 4 times every week for our meals. I think blaming fast food entirely is way off. It's our entire non-cooking culture. Don't have time to cook? Get take-out. Got some time to cook? Fry up some steaks, get some veggies out of a can, and add water to powdered potatoes. Even fancy Sunday dinners have gone out of style. It seems the only time we cook everything from scratch is Thankgiving and Christmas and I've been noticing more and more companies willing to do it for you.

Just some thoughts. I really should get back to the warehouse.

* While it's true we've had places to exchange money for food for centuries, restaurants have been around for under 200 years. According to Alton Brown's "Good Eats" the first restaurant was started in the early 1800s and only sold soups known as "restoratives" ("restaurer" from the french).
