President Bush visited my city on Saturday. Northeastern Ohio greeted our President with a cold drizzle. Taking the weather and the fact that traffic would be gridlocked because of our illustrious leader into account (The Nat is just a few blocks from my house), Justin and I decided to rent movies this weekend. We rented Mean Girls, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Butterfly Effect, and School of Rock. Justin didn't particularly want to watch any of them, but they were all ones that I thought were interesting or that came highly recommended.

Justin and I both enjoyed Mean Girls. I had read about the book it was based on in 1997 when I was working at Bluewood and I thought it looked interesting. I never did get around to reading it, but my interest is piqued again.

I watched Eternal Sunshine alone. I'd heard a lot of great things about this movie and that's probably why I was a little disappointed in it. My overall impression is that it is slow, but good. I did shed a tear or two. Justin came out and said, "Not exactly the comedy you were expecting was it?" I gave him a confused look and said, "I wasn't expecting a comedy..." And it's true. I knew it wasn't a comedy. I didn't know it would be so utterly UN-funny, but I knew it was no laugh riot before I put it in the DVD player. And I think I know why I didn't like it was much as I expected to. I didn't like Clementine and I didn't want her and Joel to be together. As much as I disliked her character, I was really moved by the scene in the house as it was collapsing. There were other things I liked as well, but I won't get into it.

When I saw a preview for The Butterfly Effect I thought it looked good. But I really dislike Ashton Kutcher. Then the reviews came out and they were all bad. But Kevin was completely disturbed by the director's cut so naturally I had to watch it. I thought the movie was interesting. Good premise and all, but the ending on the director's cut was, in my opinion, stupid. I much preferred the theatrical ending. Kevin and I talked about it this morning and he said that if anyone was depressed that the director's cut would mess them up even more. I guess I'm just well-adjusted.

I haven't watched School of Rock yet.
