Stories from New Orleans
Sep. 9th, 2005 10:31 amJoe came back from Louisiana today. I thought our guys were in Baton Rouge and Jackson, MS. I didn't realize that several of them, Joe included, were actually in New Orleans. Joe told a couple horror stories of corpses tied to trees and stop signs. Then he told one about the staging area in a K-Mart parking lot. He said there were about 200 people in this parking lot. He noticed a man wearing only shorts and combat boots running back and forth across the top of the store. He eventually came down off the roof. Joe says he looked like he had been awake for 4 or 5 days. Apparently, K-Mart had hired him to protect the store from looters. He had a chair, an ice chest, and an umbrella set up on the roof. He said he was glad they were there but warned them not to go to the back of the store. He said that's where the looters have been trying to get in and he said, "I tend to shoot first and ask questions later." He also said that if they saw a red flare they needed to jump in their trucks and get away ASAP.
