"It's pretty bad when you like the Doctor in fanfic more than on the tv show! I don't hate Eleven but am not as fascinated by him."
I actually really like Eleven. Especially when he's excited, happy, or being goofy and Matt Smith really pulled off sadness with aplomb in "The Doctor's Wife." But, like you, I'm not as interested in Eleven as I am in Nine and Ten. I'm more of a Nine girl, myself, but Ten was just a joy to watch, even when his material wasn't great.
Seasons five and six lack something and it's been nagging at me for ages what it is. I think I discovered it. They lack a character I can relate to. Rory is as close as the writers have come to a character who behaves in a way that makes sense to me, and sometimes I question even his motives.
I don't think seasons five and six are bad. Doctor Who is still better than most of what's currently airing, but I don't love these later seasons as much as I loved the first four.
