30 Days of Television - Day 20
Day 20 - Favorite kiss
Carmen, don't click on this. Actually, if you're an old-school Doctor Who fan, you probably shouldn't click on this, either. If you believe there should be no sexy shenanigans on the TARDIS, this isn't the entry for you.
My favorite kiss, the kiss that launched a thousand fanfics: Handy the Clone and Rose Tyler.
To be honest, I love every kiss between the Doctor and Rose, but there was always something that kept it from being a real kiss. Both kisses before the one on Bad Wolf Bay happened when Rose wasn't really there. She was burning from the time vortex for the first one and was possessed for the second one. On Bad Wolf Bay, she initiated it and it was consensual.
I don't remember if it was the original airing, or if I was watching a rerun. I suspect the latter. The Doctor dropped off Rose, Jackie, and TenII on the beach in Norway, and explained that TenII was really him. TenII says, "I've only got one life, Rose Tyler. I could spend it with you..." and then they cut to commercial.
When they returned, the Doctor and Donna were back on the TARDIS and I was left going, "That's it??? He just *left* her there???" It was all very upsetting. I even went upstairs and ranted at Justin for a bit.
The next day, they were showing it again. I was still moderately disgusted by the ending, but I wanted to see the show that came on after it, so I watched the last 20 minutes and was surprised (and yes, thrilled) to see the thing in its entirety. Of all the scenes to edit out of a rerun, this was the worst thing they could have cut. And that's why it's my favorite. I was just so relieved and happy to see the full version that it sticks in my mind as impossibly awesome.
It's still not perfect. They still edited the best part of the kiss out. But here it is: my favorite kiss.
