Buffy Summers
Joss Whedon described the concept of Buffy Summers as the little blonde girl in every horror movie who trips and hurts her ankle, except instead of tripping, she turns around and kicks the monster's ass. Buffy gave me my first feminist, "Hell YES!"
The situations Buffy encountered were metaphors for real life which made it easy for me to relate to her. It also made it easy to see when she made mistakes. Buffy had been gifted with an enormous amount of power and while she usually used it responsibly, sometimes it would go to her head. But she was 15 years old and the occasional abuse of her power and the more frequent typical teenage behavior made a show about vampires, demons, monsters, and a girl named Buffy remarkably realistic.
Buffy is awesome because she's good without being perfect and that keeps her from being boring.
