Dominic and I attended Kevin and Denise's wedding on Saturday. It was beautiful. I was furious with Justin because he failed to ask for Saturday off until the day before and only after he asked for Friday off due to a sore back. Naturally, he was denied the time off for the wedding. He keeps doing this! People I work with are going to start thinking we're separated, because he never attends *anything*. Dominic was very well behaved and made me proud. He looked so cute in his white shirt and vest and his little shorts. He fell asleep in the car both directions and so wasn't in a bad mood at all all day. My anger at Justin for not coming to the wedding was defused when I got home. Justin would have been called in to work anyway, it turns out. Kathleen, Justin's boss's wife, died in her sleep Friday night. She was 37 years old and has two small children. As far as anyone knew she was in perfect health. She went to bed Friday night and never woke up. My sitter, Denise (different from co-worker and recently married Denise), was very good friends with Kathleen and was unable to take Dominic for me yesterday. Justin was covering for his boss, Mark, at work so he could take care of what he needed to do. Mark is in a bad way, obviously. My heart is completely broken for him. Their two-year-old seems to be doing ok. She'll have forgotten about her mother in a few weeks. Babies don't remember things for long. Their four-year-old keeps saying, "I miss mommy." I don't know which is worse...
Since I was sitterless yesterday and feeling fine I decided to take Dominic out. We went to breakfast at Bob Evans. Before our food could arrive, the CEO, CFO, and COO of my company came in for a breakfast meeting. That was kind of embarrassing. I should have put on some makeup before I went out. Yesterday afternoon I picked up some smiley face cookies from Eat 'n Park. Dominic is very familiar with these cookies and was extremely excited when he saw them on the shelf. I kept telling him, "You'll get a cookie when we get home." He kept screaming, "Waaamamamacookie!" Ten minutes later we get home and he's still screaming, "Cookiemamawamacookie!" I put the groceries away and got us both a cup of milk, then I opened the container of cookies ("Aaaaamamacookie!"), and gave him the choice of two colors. He said, and I quote, "Waaamamacookie...thank you, mom."
