annissamazing: Ten's red Chucks (Jerri Blank)
I was walking into the sub shop when I heard someone shout "Hey!" behind me. I turned to look and it was a large, older woman trying to get my attention.

"Are you going back on Britain?" she asked. I just stared at her. "Can you give me a ride?"

"No, I'm going that way," I pointed in another direction. I hadn't intended to go the way I pointed, but I was looking for a way out of giving a stranger a ride without seeming rude. The new route would get me home in about the same time, but the roads are narrow and winding.

"Can you give me a ride down Britain? I can pay. I have a dollar."

"No, I'm sorry."

"Just half way! I'm cold!"

"I'm sorry."

We stared at each other for a couple moments. I said I was sorry again and went into the sub shop.

I don't feel good about this. The charitable thing to do would have been to give her a ride for free. I had originally intended to go back the way I came on Britain Rd. I could have even gone all the way to the end of it and not have gone out of my way. But that also would have been the stupid thing to do. So when does charitibility end and stupidity begin?
