Christmas 2005
Dec. 30th, 2005 10:38 amJustin's mother came over on Christmas Eve to drop off one of David's gifts. She works at a jewelry store so I wasn't surprised to see a small jewelry box. I had a sneaking suspicion, however, that this gift wasn't for David so I said to Justin, "So...your mom got your dad a ring, huh?" Justin replied, "Yeah. The guy my mom commissioned to make it is good friends with my dad and he kind of let it slip, so she wanted to leave it here overnight so it didn't give it entirely away." Yeah, I bought it. Hook, line, and sinker.
I must admit to being disappointed when I opened up the exercise ball Justin gave me for Christmas. I didn't ask for one and I don't know how to use one. But one must never look a gift horse in the mouth so I thanked him and told him how much I liked it and how excited I was to learn how to use it. It makes a great ottoman. ;) Anyway, we opened Dominic's presents for him (I don't know why Justin even wrapped them). I bought him a book that teaches shapes and numbers. It's padded and electronic. It's a little old for him yet, but he'll grow into it. I also bought him a Baby Mozart DVD. Dominic really digs classical music, especially Mozart and Beethoven. The DVD plays the music and shows children's toys being played with. It's one of the funnier things I've seen. As Dominic gets older I'd like to get him the toys on the DVD so he can play with them as he listens to the music instead of passively watching it. When I started to clean up, Justin said, "Oh, look here...maybe it isn't for Dad after all." He handed me the little gold-wrapped box. Inside were two diamond studs. Oh, they're absolutely gorgeous. Each one is over 1/3 carat, nearly colorless and with very few flaws (I didn't catch the clarity when Vanessa told me later). They sparkle. They gleam. They catch everyone's eye. I love them!!! His mom must've given him one helluva discount.
Justin's parents got us some nice things too. They gave me a bath set scented similarly to Dominic's bedtime bath. I don't normally like specialty soaps and lotions (I'm an Irish Spring girl), but it was a thoughtful gift because I love how Dominic smells after a bath and Dominic seems to like the scent as well. They also gave us two $50 gift certificates to a local nursery so we can buy some plants for our yard this spring. We're thinking of replacing the boxwood with a prettier bush and maybe getting a nice specimen tree for the front yard. I'd love a Harry Louder's walking stick, but we'll probably go with a japanese maple or a bartlett pear. Maybe a Norway maple or a birch. Something small and slow growing since we have powerlines that run over our front yard.
Dominic made out like a little bandit at Nana and Grampys' house, though he didn't actually care. Vanessa would hold his hand and help him open each present. He got a Fisher Price aquarium that plays music and little plastic fish go around in circles (he loves it!) and he got the modern equivalent of a Glo Worm. It's a bear now and it plays music as it glows. He also got silver proof mint sets for 2005 and a little teddy bear. Aunt Amanda sent him a crawler that says, "My dog likes to wear his favorite sweater" and has a little dog wearing a sweater. It also says "chilly dog" on the sleeve.
