annissamazingNothing special to report. I've seen midnight so often these past couple months that New Year's kind of lost its magic. Justin and I were both exhausted, so we watched the ball drop then I kissed Dominic's head because I was too tired to get up to kiss my husband.
I've started skipping the crib and putting Dominic to bed with us each night. When he sleeps in his crib, he wakes up at least once and takes a while to get back to sleep, but when he sleeps with us, he sleeps through the night. He wakes up about 5:30, I stick a nipple in his mouth and he suckles himself back to sleep. Meanwhile, I just go back to sleep and let him do what he needs to do. Easy peasy. Another benefit of breastfeeding. Justin's gone from huffy to happy about it. So long as we're sleeping, I think it's OK. It will stop before Dominic's six months old. I don't want it to be routine.
Yesterday I bought some rings for Dominic. When I was a kid they were keys on a ring but now they're animals, shapes, and numbers instead. I was showing Dominic a cat and telling him the cat says "meow" (unless he's our cat, then he goes "MAAAAAA!"). He was smiling at me and generally having a good time. I looked down to the rings to pick up the ducky and tell him it says "quack" but when I looked back at Dominic he was frowning deeply at me. It was almost cartoonish in its exaggeration. Then his eyebrows furrowed and he let out an "ooWaaaa." I was shocked. It wasn't loud like "I'm hurt!" or insistent like "I'm hungry!" It was quiet and sounded like, "Why'd you take my toy away?"
I took him shopping with me for several hours yesterday. The motion of my walking while he's in his carrier puts him to sleep. But that means he was wide awake when I finally went to bed at 11:00 last night. So we stayed awake for another hour just looking at each other in the dark. Finally, he smiled at me, his eyelids grew heavy, and he went to sleep. My heart melted. :)
